Strategies you and your child can use to avoid Auditory Processing breakdowns
- Keep looking at the speaker
- Ask to have directions/information repeated or clarified if he/she feels confused
- Repeat information quietly to him/herself after it has been given verbally
- Ask someone to explain what words mean or use a dictionary
- Visualise or make a picture in his/her mind to help remember important points
- Wait until parent/teacher has finished talking before starting a task
- Write down information you need to remember, keep a diary
- Always study in a quiet area of the house
- Try to keep environment peaceful and organised
- Build up your child’s self esteem
